How to have a Holiday Inspired Wedding Day
… without all the tinsel!
Weddings during the winter holidays are always a hit. Everyone is already home, the weather is nice and crispy, and we all love an excuse to get dressed up and go outside! But how do you create a stunning wedding design during the holidays without making it too “Christmas”? I’ll show you!
Maggie and Scott’s December Wedding paired blush roses with dark reds, deep blues, and hunter green to create the perfect holiday inspired wedding palette. Her bouquet was filled in an organic array of asymmetrical blooms including roses, anemones, and greenery.
The bridesmaids all wore dark hunter green dresses in a style that suited their personality and body type best. And they paired them with ivory shawls for outdoor photography opportunities. Groomsmen wore black tuxes with dark red boutonnieres.
The inside of the Joliet Union Station staircase was adorned with fluffy red poinsettias and candles. The landings were utilized for the escort card table, memory table, and guest book area. Each hosting their own miniature douglas firs, white twinkle lights, and candles.
The wedding cake was a rush of colors and textures with a simple gold script cake topper. Beyond the cake, a lush kings table was set for the entire wedding party. Rich red table runner ran down the center of the head table with thick greenery and tapered candles on top.
The perimeter of the room was adorned with small collections of douglas fir trees and simple white twinkle lights. Red poinsettias were pooled at the bottom of each tree grouping.
Quick Tips for a Holiday Inspired Wedding Theme:
DO: Bring in rich winter greens like fir and pine.
DON’T: Overdo it with the brighter red and greens - stick to richer jewel tones!
DO: Find little accents like gold holiday ornaments to fill out centerpieces.
DO: Add as many candles as possible for that magical holiday twinkle!
DON’T: Limit your color palette - add in creams, ivory, blush pinks, and metallics like gold or silver.
DON’T: Forget that it’s cold - bring shawls or fur coverups for outdoor photo opps!
