Everyone wants to give a killer wedding speech… but how to start?!

Hopefully these tips and tricks to giving the best wedding speech ever can help.

how to plan the best wedding speech ever

General Tips & Tricks

- Start planning early!
- Keep it short and sweet! 3-5 minutes is the ideal time frame.
- Avoid excessive alcohol before your speech.
- Think about your audience and how well they will know/react to your references
- Avoid very specific [long winded] stories that only you and the couple will relate to... remember there are 200 other people listening.
- Don't try to make jokes. This does not need to be funny. Simple and heartfelt is totally fine!
- Use notecards if you might forget your talking points. But don't write your speech word for word because you might get hung up on words or sentences in the moment.
- Practice! Record yourself practicing.
- Do not try to embarrass the newlyweds. This is their day! Let them shine brighter.
- Acknowledge and celebrate them as a couple! Don't just focus your speech on the person you're closest to personally.
- Don't tell the audience you're nervous about giving a speech, that will already be apparent. Just dive into your speech!!

- Try really hard not to say, "if you don't know me" or "some of you don't know me"... Just introduce yourself like you would at any other occasion.

"Hello everyone, I am Blair Woerfel and matron of honor to this lovely Bride. Charlene and I have been best friends since 1st grade, and I've dreamed of this moment since then."

Microphone Tips

- If you're holding a microphone, keep it VERY still. If you move it around, the DJ cannot readjust your sound and you'll either be very loud or very quiet. Neither is great…
- No need to tap tap 'is this thing on?' check... it's on... just start talking! And those taps might be very, VERY loud.

Simple Speech Template

- Introduce yourself
- Address the audience, welcome them or thank them. Thank the hosts, guests, and congratulate the couple to kick off.
- Zero in on three specific points, give examples, then wrap it up. [Yes, just like a very tiny research paper.]
- - Points can be how you know the couple, how they met, what you love about the two of them together, or three great traits they share or bring to the table.
- Finish off asking everyone to raise a glass to the couple.

how to surprise your guests with the wedding speeches

Most Importantly

- Be yourself and have some fun!!
- The couple already loves you enough to have you stand up next to them on their wedding day and say a few words, take this time to honor them and their love.

Good luck out there!!
